A Day in the Life of a Kindergarten Student at Jump

Arrival

Students arrive at school and are greeted in their immersion language (Spanish or Mandarin). They store their belongings, take out their homework, and prepare for the day.

Morning Meeting

The day begins with a morning meeting conducted entirely in the immersion language. This meeting includes greetings, a review of the day’s schedule, calendar activities, and a discussion about daily topics. Students may share news or experiences, practicing their speaking and listening skills.

Immersion Language Arts

During this time, students focus on language arts in the immersion language. Activities include reading, writing, vocabulary development, and grammar exercises. The teacher uses interactive storytelling, group discussions, and partner activities to engage students and enhance their language skills.

Math

Math lessons are typically conducted in immersion, reinforcing students’ ability to understand and apply mathematical concepts in their second language. Lessons include hands-on activities, problem-solving exercises, and collaborative projects that make math fun and educational.

Science/Social Studies

Science classes involve experiments, observations, and discussions about various scientific principles. Social studies lessons cover history, geography, and cultural studies, providing a global perspective.

Lunch

Students enjoy a lunch break where they can socialize and relax. Lunch conversations are encouraged in the immersion language to continue language practice in a more informal setting.

English Language Arts

Students switch to English for their language arts block. This time is dedicated to developing literacy skills in English, including reading fluency, comprehension, writing, and grammar. The balanced approach ensures students are proficient in both languages.

Art, Music, & Physical Education

Students engage in specialized subjects like Creative Arts, Musical Instruments, theory, and appreciation, fostering their creative processes and nurturing self-expression. Physical education and health are integral to our curriculum, where children learn vital life skills such as teamwork, collaboration, problem-solving, and emotional regulation.

Review

The final part of the day is reserved for reviewing the day’s lessons and working on ongoing projects. This time allows students to reinforce what they’ve learned and apply their knowledge creatively through presentations, group work, or individual projects.
